AGAMEMNON IS CONVINCED BY HIS BROTHER MENELAUS TO START A WAR, but there is no wind for the war ships. The oracle proclaims that for this war to happen, Agamemnon must sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia. He lures her and mother Clytemnestra by promising marriage to her beloved Achilles. The wedding party arrives in joyous celebration. Tragedy ensues.
